Colbert, Tomlin on the passing of Dan Rooney

Penguins owner Mario Lemieux said, "Mr. Rooney was an fantastic man who made such tremendous contributions to the National Football League, the City of Pittsburgh and the people of our community".

In addition to being the Steelers owner, Rooney was the chairman of the NFL's diversity committee when the Rooney Rule was implemented.

Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered the commonwealth flag to fly at half-staff throughout Pennsylvania to honor Dan Rooney, long-time owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former United States ambassador to Ireland. The NFL world lost a big one here.

As you can see below, the helmet decal includes Rooney's full name in addition to the Steelers logo along with his birth and death years.

"Dan Rooney exemplified the very best of Pittsburgh". "He was committed, humble, hard-working, loyal and never forgot where he came from". The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that Mr. Rooney died on Thursday, April 13, 2017. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, Patricia, and the entire Rooney family.

"After every game, win or lose, Mr. Rooney would enter our locker room, look me in my eye and shake my hand along with every player who stepped foot on the field". More than that he was a great friend who was a man of principle and a role model for any of us privileged to be a part of the NFL.
