A woman is suspected of leaving her young child at a Riverside grocery store - on objective - and has since dropped off the radar, police say.

Vilaysane was caught on surveillance video entering the store in the 4200 block of Van Buren Boulevard Sunday with the toddler by her side.

Riverside police released this photo a mother who allegedly abandoned her 2-year-old daughter at a Food 4 Less on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Investigators received tips about the woman's identity following news media coverage of the child's abandonment, Detective Paul Miranda said. While inside the store the child wandered off.

The mother continued to shop and when a good Samaritan brought the child to her she was reported to have responded, "Oh just leave her".

When the girl was shown a photograph from surveillance camera footage, she identified Vilaysane as "Mommy", police said.

According to police, video shows 31-year-old Chiengkham Vilaysane walking with her two-year-old daughter behind her. She was just floating around, and everybody in the store was like, 'Why is the child running around alone?

The grocery store issued a written statement that reads in part: "Food 4 Less will continue to work closely with the police and the community to provide assistance regarding the safety of this child".

The mother is described as being between 20 and 30 years old, with dark hair. She was last seen wearing a black or dark tank top and denim shorts. Portions of her right arm are covered in tattoos.
