People are raging over this news about the live-action Mulan movie

Live Action 'Mulan' Movie Won't Feature Any Songs & People Are Shook

Disney is now enjoying huge success with its live-action adaptations, including the brand new one the studio just released this weekend in Beauty and the Beast. According to Mulan fans, without the music, the live-action version should just be canceled. We realize that a movie's protagonist doesn't have to look exactly like us to be able to relate, so until I see something to indicate otherwise, the "girly martial arts extravaganza" of Mulan sounds right up my alley. Director Niki Caro recently told MovieFone that the "big, girly martial arts" film will be "extremely muscular and thrilling", but won't contain any songs. Still, that "right now" gives us a little hope.

Additionally, having a (white) director of this film to reduce Mulan to a "martial arts movie" rubs us the wrong way. It seems that the live action "Mulan" will not be a musical.

What's a Disney movie without any music? And if the development history of other Disney remakes is any indication, strong box office performances of musicals can pave the way for future musicals and make it easier for them to be green-lit. Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Aladdin are incorporating the entire original Alan Menken/Howard Ashman musical scores, which is wise, since those scores are so acclaimed and memorable. Many have expressed that removing any subtext of gay or bisexual characters would help avoid any future controversies. And I can't wait.

Writers: Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek originally penned the script, and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver rewrote it, Entertainment Weekly reports.

While we speculate on that let's listen to this classic once more before it gets upstaged. The live-action remake is going to cost Disney 100 million dollars and Caro is the second helmer at Disney, after Ava Duvernay being a first with A Wrinkle in Time.

A scene of Mulan training rigorously in the army that was played with the song "I'll Make a Man Out of You" in Disney's 1998 animation film "Mulan". Mulan is scheduled for release on November 2, 2018.
