Mavericks fall short in Summit League title game

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Mitchell Hahn scored 21 points with 10 rebounds and Tre'Shawn Thurman had 15 points and 12 boards and Omaha blitzed IUPUI 90-62 Monday night and advanced to the Summit League Tournament's championship game on Tuesday.

Daum put up 37 points and 12 rebounds for fourth-seeded South Dakota State (16-16), which claimed its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in six years.

USD's long heave went out of bounds after Orris' shot and Reed Tellinghuisen's pair of free throws sealed the win. Sophomore Mitch Hahn pitched in 14 more points with four 3-pointers. Daum made two layups and four free throws during the run and the Jackrabbits led by double figures the rest of the way.

Teammate Chris Howell was also huge for SDSU in the victory, scoring all 12 of his points during a big second half. The Jackrabbits tied the score on a 3-pointer by Skyler Flatten and took a 27-26 lead on a 3-pointer by Tellinghuisen. Daum, who scored a career-high 51 points against Fort Wayne on February 18, made 13 of 15 free throws.

The Mavericks opened up the second half with a 9-0 run to take back the lead 40-37 within the first minute of the second half. The Jackrabbits regained the lead on another three-point play by Howell, setting the stage for the dramatic final minutes.
