An East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy died after getting shot at a barbershop

A Louisiana sheriff's deputy was fatally shot late Saturday night while conducting an investigation, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police confirmed.

The identity of the deputy won't be released at this point, according to EBRSO spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks.

This is the second tragic cop killing to strike the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in the past 12 months.

Officials say the deputy was investigating a domestic situation near a theatre when the shooting occurred.

The deputy was taken from Ochsner Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday with a procession of law enforcement vehicles. East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was also at the scene.

According to Hicks, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux went to be with the deputy's family.

"Our hearts and prayers are with the family and friends of the fallen deputy and all the courageous men and women in law enforcement who risk their own safety every single day to protect the communities they serve", said Corey Amundson, acting US attorney. Bryan Lee with Louisiana State Police explained.

Two deputies were conducting an investigation at the location when shots were fired. The deputy sustained life-threatening injuries.

The suspected gunman is also being treated for a gunshot wound.

State Police is leading the investigation since it was an officer involved shooting.

The deputy was rushed to an area hospital and listed in critical condition after the shooting.
