US, Russian military to enhance communication to avoid accidents

Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has today met with a delegation led by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Department of Defense Joseph Dunford.

The top USA and Russian military leaders have agreed at a meeting in Azerbaijan to enhance communication to avoid "unintended incidents", the Pentagon said on Thursday, in an apparent attempt to avoid encounters in the skies over Syria. "Russian military relations and the importance of consistent and clear military-to-military communication to prevent miscalculation and potential crises", the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

Both officials dealt with the existing state of Russia-USA relations and also assessed the current situation in the areas of global security in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and other vital regions.

But the United States insisted Wednesday that the meeting between General Joe Dunford and the Russian military chief, General Valery Gerasimov, was not political in nature and had been planned for months. -Russian military relations at a time of seemingly heightened tensions.
