Tamil leader Sasikala jailed for graft

What a life for Sasikala, who thought she would become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and enjoy a queen's life!

Sasikala also visited the Ramapuram residence of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran where she briefly meditated before leaving for Bengaluru.

While O Panneerselvam has managed to win over 10 odd MPs and some MLAs, Sasikala has been able to rally the support of an overwhelming majority of AIADMK MLAs.

The AIADMK said on Twitter that the "vote of confidence" would take place on Saturday.

"It is common knowledge that loyalty quotient and complete submission to the writ of Sasikala are the only factors that secured Palaniswami the coveted post".

They were jointly accused of owning several bungalows, luxury cars, tea estates, eight tonnes of silver, almost 30kg of gold and thousands of saris which could be not accounted for through their salaries.

Guv invites Sasikala aide to form govt; asks him to prove majority in 15 days.

Four cars in the cavalcade of Sasikala were damaged soon after it arrived near the court premises, police said, adding, it was not immediately known who did it. It was then that Palaniswami had sworn his allegiance to Jayalalithaa.

Meanwhile, ousted CM O Panneerselvam has vowed to stage a comeback.

'We will keep this fight alive. Sasikala, on February 16 took the oath to become Tamil Nadu's chief minister, ending for now an ugly war within the ruling party.

"We have given the Governor a list of legislators supporting our legislature party leader Palaniswami".

In yet another jolt to VK Sasikala, the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant time to the former AIADMK general secretary to surrender and ordered the latter to do so before a Bangalore trial court right away. Sasikala was sentenced to four years in prison and banned from contesting an election. "An unassuming man, Palaniswami's ability to function independently remains farfetched", said Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi general secretary E R Easwaran.

But for now, the initiative appears lost in the rebel camp.

Party insiders said that the OPS camp is banking on a positive EC verdict as it would mean that the expulsion of Panneerselvam and his supporters, including MLAs, will be revoked.

An angry Pandian went to the extent of questioning Sasikala's authority of reinducting people expelled by Jayalalithaa, and asking if AIADMK was her "family property".

There was no immediate word on when Sasikala, who was held guilty of entering into a conspiracy with Jayalalithaa, would surrender.
