Rock 'n' Roll Express headed to WWE Hall of Fame

The Rock "n" Roll Express, one of the greatest tag teams in sports-entertainment history, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017 during WrestleMania Week. In the 1990s, the RNR Express would work for WWE and WCW, and capture several more NWA World Tag Team Titles.

They join Kurt Angle as the announced inductees for the March 31 ceremony in Orlando with more names expected to be announced in the coming weeks. In the process, they became one of the biggest draws in the NWA, defending multiple versions of the tag team championships throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The Midnight Express were arguably their most heated rivals, and their feud required a scaffold match at Starrcade 1987 to resolve the bad blood.

Making their argument even stronger is their latest accolade: entering the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Rock "n" Roll Express were flawless foils for heel tag teams such as the Midnight Express and Four Horseman in NWA.

Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, who first teamed up in 1983, were in many ways the precursor to the Rock and Wrestling Connection that fueled the original WrestleMania.

To see the Rock "n" Roll Express' influence on today's tag team wrestling, look no further than American Alpha, particularly when they feuded with The Revival and The Authors of Pain in NXT. Last year, the Fabulous Freebirds were inducted, and they never wrestled in the WWE as a unit. They took part in the Broken Matt Hardy-promoted Total Nonstop Deletion tag team match.

Ricky Morton said in an interview that he was surprised but very happy to get the phone call about the WWE Hall of Fame.
