Priyanka Gandhi will decide where she will campaign, not Smriti Irani: Congress

But reports suggest that she might address rallies in the constituency on February 18. Irani said that the Congress leader is not campaigning in Amethi as she can not face people's questions.

Senior Congress leader Akhilesh Singh's daughter Aditi Singh is contesting from this seat in the upcoming assembly polls, traditionally represented by Sonia Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Every BJP worker wants that the party forms the next government in Uttar Pradesh, she said on the question of chief ministerial candidate.

Irani, who had lost to Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha polls 2014, said she has been working for the people of the constituency despite the defeat.

Priyanka was rather tied up with electioneering plan for the first three phases.

In spite of an alliance between the Congress and Samajwadi party, there is expected to be a friendly contest on nearly four constituencies out of 10. It is to be mentioned that both Congress and SP agreed to withdraw their candidates from five seats each from Lucknow and other adjoining districts which are going to polls on Feb 19 (Phase III). Smriti Irani also said that Priyanka has been missing from the scene because she will not be able to face the questions that the people will attack her with. The most complex is the Amethi seat where the Congress has fielded Amita Sinh, wife of Congress campaign committee chief and MP Sanjay Sinh, while the SP has fielded against her state minister Gayatri Prajapati.

"Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani, who is focusing on Amethi and Rae Bareli on behalf of the BJP, on Friday taunted Priyanka at a Press conference in Amethi, claiming she has bolted from the area because she has no answers to "people" s questions on unfulfilled promises in the constituency".

The sources said the alliance partners are fighting a "friendly" match in 23 constituencies, including two in Raebareli and two in Amethi, the bastions of the Gandhis.
