Pet squirrel goes nuts on home burglar

It appears a would-be robber didn't stand a chance against Joey. "She says "Whoa, what was that?,' and I said 'Ahhh don't worry about that, that's just Joey, my pet squirrel".

Adam came home Tuesday to realize his Idaho home had been broken into.

Adam Pearl told KIVI that he knew something wasn't right when he arrived home February 7 and found snowy footprints leading around to the back of his property. He then made his way to a back bedroom where he saw that his gun safe had scratches around its lock - presumably from someone unauthorized trying to open it.

Pearl called police and an officer responded to the home.

"But now, I don't know", he said.

"She said while she was questioning the individual, he had scratches on his hands, so she asked him, "So did you get that from the squirrel" and he says yeah, damn thing kept attacking me and wouldn't stop until I left", Pearl said. Pearl, who has never known Joey to bite or attack, has his belongings back and also has a whole new perception of his pet.

Joey is now being hailed as a hero.

When Pearl entered his house, he was instantaneously met by Joey, his pet squirrel.

"Nobody can believe it because who can say they have a squirrel that guards their house?"

"Joey had run in the bedroom, just kind of screwing around like he always does, [and ran] between her legs and kind of startled [Officer Turner]", said Pearl.

Pearl said Joey is basking in his heroic actions by enjoying his favorite treat - Whoppers candy.
