An immigrant worker strike against President Trump's executive order on immigration that started in D.C. has spread to other USA cities, including NY. Ideal will pay its employees during its closure. Restaurant will be closed today for "Day without Immigrants".

The Republican president has pledged to build a wall along the Mexican border, and ban people from certain majority-Muslim countries from coming into the U.S. He also has blamed high unemployment on immigration. Andrés, after all, pulled out of his planned restaurant at Donald Trump's D.C. hotel because of the president's comments about Hispanic immigrants. A Day Without Immigrants is among the first large-scale strikes in the wake of Trump's inauguration.

Immigrants around the country have been staying home from work and school today, hoping to demonstrate their importance to America's economy and its way of life.

Maria Empanada restaurants in Denver and Greenwood Village, will support the protest by closing Thursday, said the eatery's Daniel Cantarovici.

On their Facebook page, Shojo management wrote, "We are choosing to participate in solidarity with all immigrants as a reflection of our resolute belief in diversity". "I support it because I think it's necessary that we do things to resist the kinds of changes brought upon us by the Trump administration", Jacobs said. Andrés is now in a legal battle with President Trump after pulling out of a deal in 2015 to open a restaurant in the Trump International Tower in Washington, a move made after Trump's disparaging remarks on Mexican immigrants at the start of his campaign.

"We say to immigrants, 'Come over and do it right". Other businesses posted signs on their doors saying they stand with their immigrant neighbors by closing too.
