Louisville-Virginia preview: Short-handed Cardinals look to exorcise demons against Cavs

Adel is Louisville's third-best scorer, averaging 11.1 points per game, and Mathiang is a defensive centerpiece who has averaged 12.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and shot 67 percent from the floor over the past five games.

Coach Rick Pitino announced Monday morning that forward Deng Adel and center Mangok Mathiang have been suspended from the game against the Cavaliers after breaking curfew Saturday. On Dec. 28, then-No. "For some reason, Mangok and Deng chose to break curfew and were out very late".

As frustrated as No. 9 U.Va. was Saturday watching Syracuse guards Andrew White and Tyus Battle thrive in the Orange's 66-62 win, a risky Louisville backcourt duo arriving in Charlottesville on Monday night could represent an even bigger headache for the Cavaliers.

The Cardinals are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall, including going 5-0-1 ATS in their last six ACC affairs, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four road tilts and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games following a win by 20-plus points.

Virginia will have to put up a consistent effort throughout the entire 40 minutes of play if they hope to bounce back with a win against an efficient Cardinal team.

Neither player traveled with the team to Charlottesville. Mangok is no longer a captain of our team.

In addition to his scoring, Mitchell's role has expanded in recent weeks.

With Adel and Mathiang being suspended, and Quentin Snider and Tony Hicks already missing action due to injuries, the Cardinals come into this match-up with seven scholarship players. A couple Syracuse three-pointers gave the Orange the lead, which Virginia cut to one with 1:12 left but was unable to regain for the rest of the game. He scored a season-high 16 points at Boston College and had 13 points, matched a career-best with 13 rebounds and blocked two shots at Florida State for his first double-double of the season.

It's another big ACC clash tonight when No. 9 Virginia hosts No. 6 Louisville at 7PM ET on ESPN.
