She was still rewarded for an epic performance and unreserved praise from Adele.

The 35-year-old, who became one of the world's top stars with her R&B-rooted pop, took a more provocative approach with her latest album "Lemonade", which she intertwined with a film.

After finishing "Fastlove", fellow artists showed their support for Adele in the audience with a standing ovation - and on Twitter.

Beyoncé, who recently revealed that she's pregnant with twins, performed both songs at last night's event, draped in gold while being attended by a host of dancers. She said that, "All us artists here adore you".

By Monday morning, it seemed the vast majority of Twitter users agreed Adele's praise for Beyonce wasn't racist, but instead a heartfelt and honest dedication to one of her favorite talents.

"I was completely rooting for her, I voted for her", Adele said. The British singer was visibly shaken and kept repeating how she couldn't possibly accept the award since it should have gone to Queen Bey.

Many saw this result as indicative of a racist academy - like the Oscars - and even Adele suggested in her speech that LEMONADE should have won AOTY, not her own number one bestselling album of 2016, 25.

"Whoo, I always get so nervous", a flustered Adele admitted, before sharing a sweet story about "Hello" co-writer Greg Kurstin. I thought it was her year.
