Former MQM leader Salim Shahzad arrested

A number of accusations were hurled at him in the past complains MQM leader

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shahzad was arrested by SSP Rao Anwar upon arrival in Karachi on Monday.

The police official expressed that after investigations, he would be shifted to the relevant police station.

A week after MQM founder Altaf Hussain speech that stirred a hornet's nest in Pakistan, Shahzad announced to return to Pakistan with an aim to "strengthen" MQM's breakaway faction - MQM Pakistan - led by party leader Farooq Sattar.

The self-exiled politician who arrived here from Dubai after half-an hour flight of a private airliner, was received by his family members and relatives at Karachi airport this morning.

Shehzad was travelling on a British passport from Dubai to Karachi said Mushtaq Muhar, a DSP Karachi airport. He added that several cases were registered against the accused at various police stations in the Central and East districts.

In a surprise announcement, the politician announced to return to Pakistan ending his self-exile.

He was also declared as proclaimed offender in Dr Asim case whereas the court has also given orders of his arrest.

In August previous year, Shahzad said he would soon return to Pakistan to strengthen MQM-Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar and his party, after Sattar dissociated the MQM from Altaf Hussain.

Dr Asim had also disclosed before JIT that Salim Shahzad had facilitated the terrorists in connection with their treatment.
