It didn't hurt that the National Football League arranged for him to fly in on Wednesday, return home to take four of his girls to a father-daughter dance Friday and then come back to Orlando Saturday to play in Sunday's all-star game. Both Hayward and Gordon are participating in the Pro Bowl for the first time in their careers.

To do so, he'll take a red-eye to Orlando on Thursday.

The longtime Bolts quarterback was added to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday, replacing Ben Roethlisberger and giving him an opportunity to play one more game as a San Diego Charger, in his mind.

Rivers could have easily skipped the Pro Bowl as many veteran players do, especially since it's not in Hawaii.

The team played in San Diego for the entire 2016 season, and won't play in Los Angeles County until next season. "That's cool... We walked off the field after that Kansas City game [at the end of the regular season] and we thought it might be the end, but we didn't know". He established deep roots in San Diego during his 13 seasons with the Chargers.

The San Diego Chargers announced less than two weeks ago that they'd be relocating to Los Angeles for the 2017-18 season, leaving the city that the franchise called home for 55 years.

The 35-year-old threw a career-high 21 interceptions this past season - including 14 in his last seven games - and finished with his lowest passer rating (87.9) since 2007, his second as a starter.
