World AIDS Day 2016 in Sarasota

The City County Health Department has prevention, testing, and case management for those who test positive.

With all that in mind, people across the globe and here in Mid-Michigan took the time today to celebrate "World AIDS Day". "If the HIV movement has taught me one thing, it's what multiple loss feels like and how imperative it is to manage it". 1 in 8 people living with it don't know they have it.

The event welcomed patients, employees and community members to unite in the fight against HIV by raising awareness, encouraging testing and helping to dismantle the stigmas often associated with HIV/AIDS.

NY started the new effort in June 2014, and it has had success, Cuomo's office said: For the first time in the state's history, there were zero cases of mother to child transmission of HIV for an 18-month period.

"Medications that are out now, that are allowing people not only to live healthy lives, but also to suppress the production of HIV", said Dr. Bambi Gaddist, the executive director of the South Carolina HIV/AIDS Council.

"By offering HIV self-testing, we can empower people to find out their own HIV status and also to notify their partners and encourage them to get tested as well", explained Gottfried Hirnschall, MD, MPH. While Belize has an HIV prevalence rate of 2.5 percent, the highest in Central America, Usher maintains that Belize is making positive strides in controlling the epidemic. I can not say it more sincerely or more often - know your HIV status. To end HIV transmission, he said, the focus should be on HIV combination prevention, early detection and access to antiretroviral treatment.

Of the 80 per cent who are aware, only 76 per cent are receiving treatment, but most of those being treated have seen the virus suppressed.

"There are approximately 270 persons in our country living with HIV - this number being garnered from the total number of reported cases minus the total number of reported deaths", Minister of State Phipps said. "Every two minutes, another adolescent - most likely a girl - will be infected with HIV".
