Why Joey Logano Needs To Make NASCAR's Final Four

Joey Logano celebrates in the victory lane Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Ariz.

All the drama unfolded behind Busch, as eight drivers scrambled for four positions in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Chase's Championship 4 Round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

There are only two spots remaining in the final race of NASCAR's 2016 Sprint Cup season at Homestead, Florida. Although he cleared traffic on the restart, his teammate Kyle Busch had contact with Alex Bowman that altered Bowmans racing line.

Joey Logano raced his way into NASCAR's championship finale with a victory at Phoenix International Raceway.

Keven Harvick needed to win Sunday and was the favorite because he's an eight-time Phoenix victor.

Harvick is in seventh place, 18 points behind the transfer position. But he said his No. 4 SHR Chevy was too far off from the time it was unloaded for Friday practice, when he was only 14th-fastest.

Entering the day, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards were two of the four who already had their ticket punched to Miami.

Busch noted he'd learned something about the tires by running the Xfinity race, and he planned to confer with his Cup team to get better prepared for Sunday's main event. Larson was third followed by Harvick and Kurt Busch. But on the restart, Harvick could not match the surge that Logano made to get out front - and actually ended up losing one spot before the checkered flag flew.

"It's really unfortunate and devastating to have the race come down like that", he said.

"My grandmother was giving me the ride of my life", said Wallace, almost sobbing. "Today we were in that situation and we won the race, and I can't wait to put my team in that situation again".

Both vehicle owners got two drivers each into the championship field the first year NASCAR rolled out the Chase for its lower two national series. "Coming out of four Logano wins at Phoenix". "We didn't get the job done", he said.

"I'm like 'Oh, shoot, we're out, ' and it was going to be so close there at the end to try to get ourselves through, and next thing you know the caution comes out and the whole game changes", Logano said. I don't feel it's a long shot like the last time, when it was the first time I was racing for a championship.

"I still thought we were OK", Hamlin said. "I don't really know any more than that".
