Sevilla thump Dinamo 4-0 to close in on last-16 berth

Sevilla secured their place in the last-16 of the Champions League with a comfortable victory over Dinamo Zagreb in Spain

Sevilla all but booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night with a comfortable 4-0 win at home to Dinamo Zagreb which gives them 10 points from their opening four Champions League group matches.

Under new manager Jorge Sampaoli, the former coach of Chile's national team who is at the helm of a club for the first time in Europe, Sevilla have lost just once, a 3-1 defeat at Athletic Bilbao on September 24.

"Winning in this way confirms we are now ready to go into the next round and keep fighting in this competition", the former Chile boss is quoted as saying in Estadio Deportivo.

N'Zonzi hit the crossbar amid a series of early attacks that finally culminated in Vietto's 31st-minute opener.

Dinamo already had enough problems trying to create chances when defender Stojanovic left his team a man down in first-half injury time when he picked up a second booking for a needless kick of Victor "Vitolo" Machin.

Sevilla, which had won the Europa League for the previous three seasons, leads Group H with 10 points.

It took Sevilla over 20 minutes to make their numerical advantage count, but the goals began to flow once Escudero exchanged a one-two with Vitolo before firing into the far corner.

Vietto continued his fine form as he controlled a low cross from the left and his effort from a narrow angle had too much power for Dinamo 'keeper Dominik Livakovic.

French midfielder N'Zonzi made it 3-0 with a downward header in the 80th minute and substitute Ben Yedder put the icing on the cake in the closing stages after a superb run and cross by right back Mariano.

Jorge Sampaoli insists he will not rotate his Sevilla side against Champions League strugglers Dinamo with Barcelona on the horizon.
