Saints run all over hapless 49ers defense

Most recently the Saints evened their record to 4-4 with a big 41-23 road win over the San Francisco 49ers. The New Orleans backfield is headed down the path of a frustrating timeshare, with neither back running clearly ahead of the other. He slipped a little in his second season and more so the year after when the Vikings moved outside at the University of Minnesota during construction of their new stadium. After a job opening at 49ers Head Coach Chip Kelly's former school, Oregon, the possibility of a return struck the minds of fans.

On the longest run of his National Football League career, Ingram ran 75 yards to paydirt to earn a game ball for his play.

"We've been in different types of games than the first quarter of the season". Progress made during the 2015 regular season was eclipsed by the infamous miss of the 27-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the first-round playoff game against Seattle that kept Minnesota from advancing.

"We don't talk about really long-term goals because that stuff will take care of itself", the coach said.

The Saints won the time of possession battle each of the past three weeks, posting season-best marks in the category the past two weeks.

"It's everybody's fault on the defensive side", said Kelly, noting that it starts with him as the franchise's first-year coach. San Francisco travels to play Arizona next before hosting the Patriots the following week.

The Dallas Cowboys will let their quarterback situation play out "play by play, series by series and game by game", Jerry Jones said Tuesday.

The Saints added another score when Brees threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ingram, but less than two minutes later Kaepernick threw a swing pass to DuJuan Harris, who turned it into a 47-yard touchdown.

Kaepernick's fumbled snap on fourth down from the Saints 10 sealed the 49ers' fate with 5:51 remaining, however, as he accounted for two of their four turnovers.

"Today was a step in the right direction", Kaepernick said. "But it's our job as a defense to limit those mistakes because mistakes in this league go for touchdowns". "It's being a team that in November finds a way to come together and starts stringing wins together to the point that, before you know it, you're in the chase". A Colin Kaepernick interception also led to a Saints touchdown. He said the 49ers were blitzing from the right.

My favorite thing about this play is that the sideline judge at the bottom of the screen did not throw a flag on 49ers CB Keith Reaser despite him purposefully holding Saints WR Mike Thomas. "And, ultimately, that's what we have to do, is correct things offensively, defensively and special teams".

Saints coach Sean Payton promised to use both against the 49ers (1-7), who entered Sunday's game hemorrhaging 185.1 rushing yards per game. It will be helpful if the team can stop the Broncos' run game and get pressure on Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian.

Phil Dawson's 46-yard field goal cut the Saints' 11-point halftime lead to 31-23 early in the third quarter.

The story of the game, though, was certainly the Saints offense.

"I've known Marcus for nearly seven, eight years now, ever since I won the Heisman, and he's always been great at giving advice", said Ingram, who ran for 158 yards - including a career-long 75-yard touchdown - a week after being benched for fumbling issues. In fact, the only touchdown of the second half came on an incredible catch by Michael Thomas. With the Saints at the 13 yard line, they were very likely going to get three points anyways and those yards didn't really matter.
