Rams QB Jared Goff tosses first career National Football League touchdown passes

The Los Angeles Rams arrived in New Orleans knowing they needed Jared Goff to throw the ball downfield to have a chance against a top-ranked Saints offense.

The Los Angeles Rams are still officially in the hunt for a playoff berth in the NFC. Zuerlein has been excellent this season and should be fine on New Orleans' artificial turf.

On the first play of the quarter, Aaron Donald sacked Brees and forced a fumble that Rams linebacker Mark Barron recovered at the Saints' 6. The drive took just six plays to go 75 yards, taking 2:52 off the clock. This week against the Saints, Goff showed why the Rams moved up to take him with the first overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. Tommylee Lewis got the opportunity. The Saints rolled up 555 yards of offense, were 6 of 13 on third down and two of two on fourth down conversions. On the play, the Saints faked a speed sweep, which froze the defense and Coleman emerged uncovered.

The Rams (4-7) led 14-7 early but the Saints scored 21 consecutive second quarter points and led 28-21 at halftime. They may not have a choice this week against Drew Brees' Saints. In both situations, the Saints were stuffed on third-and-1.

The attractive 24-yard throw came in the first quarter of the Rams' game versus the New Orleans Saints. Tim Hightower is his backup. The play was set up perfectly. In his debut last week, a 14-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Goff attempted only five passes that traveled more than 10 yards, all of which fell incomplete. He is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and has rushed for two touchdowns. It was an easy throw for Goff and Kendricks had time to turn and plunge into the end zone. Goff connected with wide receiver Tavon Austin on a 24-yard touchdown.

At this point, the Rams' goal should be to leave New Orleans without anymore injuries. Once again, Gregg Williams blitzed and the Saints had the ideal play called. Then there's Rams coach Jeff Fisher, who really needs some good news. It marked the 20th time he has thrown four touchdown passes without an interception, trailing only Tom Brady (21) in that category on an all-time basis. Brees has done it nine seasons in a row. Payton knows Williams' defense and Williams knows Payton's offense.

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram (22) celebrates his touchdown carry with quarterback Drew Brees (9) in the second half of an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Rams in New Orleans, Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016.

The defense pitched a shutout in the second half.

Goff responded with an impressive 79-yard drive in the final three minutes of the first half. He completed 17-of-31 passes for 134 yards and ran four times for 11 yards.

The only negatives were the one turnover and the still shaky kicking game. The Saints outgained the Panthers 371-223 but lost 23-20. A few will breakout from the pack.
