Petition Asks Electoral College to Vote Clinton

Donald and Melania Trump made their first official trip to the White House on November 10 for some quality time with President Obama and the First Lady.

President Barack Obama and president-elect Donald Trump: two rivals now preparing for the hand-off of the White House.

"I believe that it is important for all of us", added Obama, "regardless of party, to now come together and deal with the problems we face..."

"I have been very encouraged by the, I think, interest in President-elect Trump's wanting to work with my team around numerous issues that this great country faces", Obama said. Trump - who said, as far as he was concerned, the meeting could have carried on - called Obama a "very good man". The meeting was reportedly cordial and went for a longer-than-expected 90 minutes.

Furthermore, despite my contempt for Trump's constant lies and self-aggrandizement, I understand why people who have felt trampled on by "the system" for many years had trouble making meaningful distinctions between the respective vices of these two candidates.

Still the meeting of the current and future first ladies was a moment to consider both the fraught public relationship between the two and their differing styles.

President-elect Trump took to Twitter Thursday evening and said it was a fantastic day in D.C., calling his time with President Obama a really good meeting with great chemistry.

Trump expressed respect toward Obama, called it a great honor to speak with him and said he would seek Obama's counsel in the future. He explained some of the difficulties, some of the high-flying assets and some of the really great things that have been achieved.

For the past seven months, I have been commuting back and forth to New Orleans for family reasons, and Wednesday morning as I walked into the hotel lobby I wondered if I would be greeted by boisterous celebrations of Trump's victory.

"It's time for America to bind the wounds of division", Trump said during his victory speech early Wednesday.

In a cordial beginning to their transfer of power, Obama and President-elect Donald Trump met at the White House on Thursday (Friday NZT). In retrospect, the story was never that Trump was going to have trouble getting Republicans to the polls to vote for him - it was that Democrats would stay home rather than support Hillary Clinton.

At the start of the 2016 election cycle, this power structure proclaimed Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush shoo-ins for the nominations of the Democratic and Republican parties.

Trump spoke briefly with reporters Thursday after meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at the Capitol.

"Just eight months ago, Obama joked that Trump was 'here".

Trudeau acknowledged Trump's stance on renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement and said he's open to conversation.

There were no grip-and-grin photos of the meeting between Michelle Obama and Melania Trump and no indication of how well they interacted. In Trump's case, that process will be especially challenging giving that he will be the first president elected with not political, diplomatic or military executive experience.

"He just earned a mandate", Ryan said.

The Trump team is also putting together possible picks for the Cabinet and White House staff.

In 2011, Obama responded by producing a long-form birth certificate and mocking Trump at a high-profile press dinner as the NY businessman sat in the audience. The White House said it would organize two exercises involving multiple agencies to help Trump's team learn how to respond to major domestic incidents. The president campaigned aggressively against Trump during the 2016 campaign, warning that his election would put the republic at risk. In this past campaign year, Clinton described the birther movement as a racist attack on the nation's first African-American president.
