Kanye West in hospital after tour dates ditched

Kanye West

"He is exhausted and now dealing with sleep deprivation", a source told People magazine.

Police responded to a medical emergency at West's home at 1:20 p.m. PT, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told Business Insider. The 39-year-old star's wife Kim Kardashian West, 36, is believed to have flown back to Los Angeles to be by her husband's side and cancelled her first public appearance since she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris.

Earlier on Monday, tour promoter Live Nation announced the cancellation of the remaining 21 dates of West's Saint Pablo tour of the U.S. and Canada.

Kim Kardashian West did not attend the Angel Ball in New York City like she had planned because of the hospitalization.

Addressing why West had cancelled his tour, Jenner told US TV show Extra: "He's exhausted, he's just really tired".

It's reported that the rapper was admitted to the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and has been under psychiatric evaluation. He's had a gruelling tour and it's been a grind, so he just needs to rest'.

The hospitalisation comes after a tumultuous week for the rapper.

Live Nation said on Twitter that it would refund tickets for the remaining dates of the 2016 tour, which had been set to continue in Orlando, Philadelphia, Washington, Boston, New York and Toronto, Canada.

On Thursday during his concert in San Jose, West editorialized about racism and the Black Lives Matter movement before praising President-elect Donald Trump.

Saturday's truncated show became a hot topic on social media as amateur videos circulated of a 10-minute tirade by West about Beyonce, Jay Z, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg, the radio and MTV.

More recently, West cut his Saturday concert in Sacramento short after several songs, but not before calling out Beyoncé and addressing Jay Z: "Call me, brah, you still ain't call me". Billboard magazine cited that a source told them he was extremely exhausted and close to exhaustion. West has been hospitalized for his own safety and is said to be suffering a mental breakdown as a result of "severe sleep deprivation".
