Iran's FM in Russian Federation for Trilateral Talks

Lavrov is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Iranian counterpart to discuss the prospects of developing the Russian-Iranian relations in the context of implementing the agreements reached by the Russian and Iranian presidents in Baku, Azerbaijan, in August.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier on Wednesday that Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem would also be in Moscow on Friday for talks.

Iran plays an important role in the events developing in the Middle Eastern region, she added noting that Russian Federation considered this visit "rather timely and important, taking into account the current worldwide situation, including the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan".

Tehran insists that the Syrian nation is the only side that has the right to shape the future of its own country, rejecting foreign intervention with the use of force.

Qassemi indicated the failure of the Western-Arab plot to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, after allies of Damascus have weakened the terrorists, particularly the DAESH, Arabic name of the Islamic State (ISIS), and the former Al-Nusra Front. Over 400,000 people have so far been killed in the conflict, according to estimates by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

The army has been liberating more areas around Mosul, with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command announcing that counter-terrorism units were only two kilometers away from the city.
