Five games, five wins, five dominant defensive performances for Vikings

I think we can probably all agree that the Vikings are "for real" after crushing the Houston Texans 31-13 on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium. Sam Bradford has been efficient, throwing for 719 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. The Vikings are giving up just 12.5 points and 335 yards per game on defense.

Houston could not get anything going on offense, mustering just 214 yards of offense all game and not converting on a third down until late in the fourth quarter when the game was long out of reach.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings followed their winning formula again to precision and maintained the NFC's only flawless record.

Maintaining the NFC's only flawless record, Sam Bradford and the Vikings (5-0) built a big early lead before unleashing their defense on Osweiler and the Texans on the way to an easy 31-13 victory on Sunday.

"When we keep getting guys hurt, it's always a concern", Zimmer said. It was Sherels' second punt return for a score this season, making him the first player in Vikings' history to have two punt return scores in one season.

A flawless 5-0. That's got to sound handsome to Vikings fans, especially when you consider who isn't playing for the team.

But after five weeks, the Treadwell has yet to catch a pass for the undefeated Vikings, while Thielen is turning heads, especially with Minnesota's top pass-catcher - Stefon Diggs - out with a groin injury on Sunday.

When Fusco exited in the first quarter, Minnesota was without six of its projected 11 preseason starters on the offensive side of the football but still managed to pile up a two-touchdown lead by the end of the first quarter, all they really needed.

"I knew we had a great challenge ahead of us, but I felt confident in what we could do", Osweiler said.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (84) catches a pass during the first quarter against the Houston Texans at the Metrodome. Fuller had seven catches for 81 yards and a touchdown last week in the win over Tennessee.

Like Thielen in 2013, Sherels went undrafted in 2010 and had to make the team through the rookie tryout camp. He was sacked a season-high four times and went 19-of-42 passing with a touchdown and an interception, while the Texans gained just 59 yards on the ground - 39 of those coming on their lone touchdown drive.

But coach Mike Zimmer's squad continues to get it done, no matter who is suiting up.

One week after eliminating Odell Beckham and two weeks after holding Kelvin Benjamin catchless, the secondary allowed only 5 catches for 56yards to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who had 111 receptions previous year. Rhodes was called for pass interference (34 yards) and holding (5 yards) to give the Texans their first two first downs during a second quarter drive that yielded a field goal, but Hopkins was held without a catch in the decisive first half.

COWBOYS 28, BENGALS 14: Ezekiel Elliott ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns, fellow rookie Dak Prescott threw for a score and ran for another TD, and the Cowboys beat the Bengals. On Sunday, right guard Brandon Fusco went down with a concussion in the first quarter and was replaced by Zac Kerin.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley (17) makes a catch while being pursued by Houston Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson (25) during the first quarter of an National Football League game at NRG Stadium Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 in Houston.

Next up: rookie Carson Wentz and the Eagles on October 23 at Philadelphia.
