Aguero and Kompany staying put, says Guardiola

Aguero, the league leaders' top scorer, was left out of the starting 11 against Barca, while Kompany, the club captain, did not make the match day squad.

Manchester City host Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday (today) as Pep Guardiola's men look for a Premier League victory in three games.

Kompany's prospects appeared to take another turn for the worse when the Belgium centre-half, who has been plagued by injury in the past two seasons, was left out at the Nou Camp, even though De Bruyne said his compatriot was fit.

"I spoke with Sergio, we talked about that, he was so understanding and helped us a lot from the bench and in the last minutes if the game was close, the last 30/35 minutes and their central defenders were exhausted, I thought Sergio could help us a lot".

Sergio Aguero is set to be the next high-profile casualty of Pep Guardiola's ruthless Manchester City revolution, writes David McDonnell.

Defender Kompany, who has been blighted by injuries in recent seasons, was said to be fully fit and travelled to Catalonia but Guardiola chose not to involve the experienced 30-year-old. "I like him. But we've tried to take care of him".

"I spoke with Sergio about that", he said. "Barcelona have been playing together for 15 years, they play in a natural way".

Guardiola also didn't start Aguero against Everton - which led us to believe he was being rested for the Barcelona game - and this proved to be a mistake as City created plenty of chances but just needed someone to get on the end of them. He went to the doctors and said: "I am not able to play".

"Sometimes there are mistakes and sometimes you have to kick the ball out, but most of the time, when we play good, it starts from there", added Guardiola. "I'm very happy to have this experience with him and learn from the best". "We are going to win four titles".

"I am ambitious, but not to change what is impossible to change in the short time".

Steve Nicol and Craig Burley are in disbelief over the play of Claudio Bravo and the Man City defence against Barcelona.

"Aguero was a tactical decision, we wanted more in the middle".

"If you see the last game at home against Everton, they shot twice and scored a goal".

"I was impressed, it will be tough but of course we need to win". I think about that but the solution is not better than what I believe. But if you believe I am going to win 4-0 at the Camp Nou.

"Three months together, you can not imagine how hard it is to build something, to create something".
