Twitter reacts: Moussa Sissoko rejects Everton to join Tottenham

Newcastle wrote in a statement on Wednesday night: "Midfielder Moussa Sissoko has completed his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee".

The France worldwide had looked set to move to Everton only to opt for Spurs after the London club made a late bid for the 27-year-old.

Moshiri suggested Everton's eagerness to build their midfield around Republic of Ireland star James McCarthy was the primary reason why they walked away from a £30m deal with Newcastle. "But I was in London waiting to sign my contract [with Tottenham]".

"Everyone knows, I have often said when I was young, my heart was Arsenal because there were a lot of French players there", Sissoko said this year.

"I'm very happy, very proud to be here", Sissoko, who impressed one and all with his performances for France in Euro 2016, told the club's official website.

Obviously things WEREN'T otherwise equal, though, since Sissoko also said that playing in the Champions League (as opposed to the Championship) was a big factor in his decision.

However, it has since been revealed that in Sissoko's mind, Tottenham was only ever the likely destination.

After Sissoko's arrival at the London-based side, the player explained why he shared similar objectives with his new coach. There are discussions to be had and I just hope to find the best club for me, where I can develop myself as much as possible.

Another driving force which convinced Sissoko to join Spurs was his French teammate Hugo Lloris. "Now we have a squad where every player who is here wants to work together to fight for the club". The Ireland worldwide had enjoyed regular football at both Wigan and Everton under his mentor Roberto Martinez who is now managing the Belgian national team. Sissoko continued: "He's a good friend for me".
