Teheran stops contending Mets again, Braves win 4th in row

Now the rest of the Braves are learning what it's like to torment the Mets at the most pivotal time of the year.

Freddie Freeman continued his road mastery of the New York Mets Monday night, when the Atlanta Braves first baseman collected four hits - including a homer - and three RBIs to lead the Braves to a 7-3 win at Citi Field.

He needs to look into a mirror and say to himself why was I brought here to NY? Another loss would also derail the Mets' hopes of clinching a wild card berth.

Atlanta Braves ace Julio Teheran is proving to be the New York Mets' kryptonite.

"I know where the Braves sit - they had a awful first half - they've got a pretty nice lineup right now", Mets manager Terry Collins said. "We're going out to try to win the ballgame".

Blair (1-6) gave up six hits in six innings and lowered his ERA to 7.71.

On Wednesday from Citi Field in Flushing, the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets will be finishing up their Major League Baseball series.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Braves.

Granderson hit an RBI double during the Mets' three-run rally in the eighth.

Campbell ultimately came through, delivering an RBI single to left field to pull the Mets within one, but Travis d'Arnaud later grounded out to end the inning, killing the rally.

Jim Johnson allowed a two-out single to Cabrera in the ninth but struck out Yoenis Cespedes for his 16th save.

"He's not ready to go real far, so we need to make sure we're not just taking a short in the dark here and starting a guy that we can get only get two innings out of", Collins said. A great place to come play.

The Mets (80-70) had a three-game winning streak snapped. The young pitcher previously threw a one-hit shutout in Citi Field last June and is 2-0 against NY this year.

"I think that right now, after what transpired last night, it might be better to go in a different way and see if someone else can play the position, because you've told the player, 'I really don't have a lot of confidence in you, '" Darling said. Josh Smoker then inherited the bases loaded and forced in a run with a walk on a full-count offering to Nick Markakis. Blevins allowed a single to Ender Inciarte before hanging a curveball to Adonis Garcia, who broke the game open with a three-run moonshot, extending the Atlanta lead to 5-1.

"We're playing really good, we've got everything working right now", Teheran said, "We're trying to take it (into) next year". Cabrera reached base in all five plate appearances, via three hits and two walks, and also stole a base.

Happ (20-4) allowed two runs, six hits and a walk over five innings, striking out eight while winning for the 14th time in his last 15 decisions.

NOTES: Mets RHP Jacob deGrom, who hasn't pitched since September 1, will undergo surgery soon to move the ulnar nerve in his right arm. It will be the second start of the season for Weber, who allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings in relief of RHP John Gant on Friday.

When asked his level of concern over Wilmer Flores' injured wrist, which is keeping him from swinging the bat even after two cortisone shots, Collins said "The concern is DEFCON 4".

It was the third time in five starts Gsellman has taken a shutout into the sixth inning or later only to have the Mets ultimately lose the game.

Braves: RHP Mike Foltynewicz, out for more than a week after being hit on the left calf by a line drive, could throw a bullpen session in the next couple of days. With a 60-91 record, interim manager Brian Snitker likes his team's approach.
