Upon returning, water in hand, she said wryly, "One thing you know from my doctor letter is I have seasonal allergies". She has dramatically deeper ground operations in swing states and trounced Mr Trump in August fundraising. Just 42% of likely voters have a favorable view of Clinton and 45% have a favorable view of Trump. "If, after four years, you decide you don't like peace, prosperity and freedom, you can always vote a Trump or a Hillary back into office again", Johnson says.

Any immigrants who want full citizenship must return to their countries of origin and get in line, he told reporters - but he would not rule out a pathway to legal status for the millions living in the US illegally, as he did in a long-awaited policy speech last week.

"I expect to do all three", he said.

Bill Clinton's wife, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, will campaign in Charlotte on Thursday.

But the Republican flagbearer's unorthodox White House bid, including his campaign's apparent imperviousness to criticism about his harsh rhetoric, assures a tight contest for the next 64 days.

Clinton added, "I believe I have created so many jobs in the sort of conspiracy theory machine factory". Last week, he even suggested Clinton's lethargy explains why she decided not to travel to Mexico.

It's been the mission of his whole campaign from the very first day - to demonize immigrants, to call Mexicans rapists and killers, to do everything he could to stir up all kinds of bad feelings about hard-working people.

Hillary Clinton took a wide-ranging series of questions from her traveling press corps Monday for the first time in over a month, primarily responding to a report in The Washington Post that USA intelligence agencies are investigating potential Russian interference in the US election.

Clinton and her aides note that Trump has been friendly with Putin and Russian Federation, to the point where he suggested - jokingly - that they hack into the Democratic candidate's emails.

She said Russian President Vladimir Putin appears "quite satisfied with himself" and said Trump "has generally parroted what is a Putin-Kremlin line".

Trump, who has previously accused the USA central bank of keeping interest rates low to help Democratic President Barack Obama, said on Monday that the Fed has created a "false economy" and that interest rates should change.

"In just a few hours, he managed to turn his trip to Mexico into an embarrassing global incident. And she didn't have the energy to go to Mexico", he said. At every stop, Clinton argues that Trump is temperamentally unfit to serve as commander-in-chief, warning that his bluster would damage the nation's longstanding alliances.

Trump, who visited a Cleveland diner to meet with union members and the Canfield County Fair in eastern OH, is seeking to capitalise on simmering frustration among blue-collar workers over jobs and wages.

These are the places where the campaigns are spending their time and money.

Muir pressed Trump on whether he was "talking about aesthetics".

"If Trump loses OH, he loses the race", Brown told AFP.

And if he wants to win the election, he's going to have to win those states.
