Garcia, Wisler pace Braves in rain-shortened win

Atlanta is averaging 5.1 runs per game since August 2, and center fielder Ender Inciarte and third baseman Adonis Garcia combined to go 5-for-8 with five runs scored Saturday.TV: 1:35 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), FSN South (Atlanta) PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Joe Ross (7-4, 3.49 ERA) vs. Braves RH Matt Wisler (6-12, 5.00) Ross has not pitched in the majors since July 2 due to shoulder inflammation, and a return to health could make him a valuable option for the Nationals in the postseason.

The Braves scored a run in the bottom of the first, two more in the third when they had four straight hits and three times in the fifth while chasing Gonzalez, who fell to 4-9 for his career against the Braves.

Washington is now 88-60 and holds a firm nine-game lead over the second-place New York Mets in the National League East division. Wisler, who turned 24 on Monday, lost in his only start against Washington this season, surrendering three runs on four hits in six innings on April 13.WALK-OFFS1.

Ross (7-5) was on a pitch count as he allowed one run and six hits and struck out five.

He faced a limited lineup as Nationals manager Dusty Baker gave sluggers Daniel Murphy and Anthony Rendon the day off and used Ryan Zimmerman as a pinch-hitter. "Today I came out aggressively and made them put the ball in play".

Adonis Garcia drove in three runs and Matt Wisler pitched five-plus innings for the Braves. It was his first start since July 2.

"We'll see how his arm feels", Baker said Saturday.

Ross trailed 1-0 in the second on Jace Peterson's RBI single.

The Nationals wasted a chance to rattle Collmenter in the second when he walked three of the first four batters but struck out Turner to escape the jam. Collmenter also stranded a runner at third in the third.

Meanwhile, Washington welcomed the return of impressive sophomore starter Joe Ross.

"I can't keep having outings like this if I want to pitch up here for a long time".

Atlanta made it 3-0 by pushing across two runs across in the fourth, one on Dansby Swanson's RBI double, the other on a single by Garcia. Turner's 7th triple and his 28th hit in 59 ABs vs Atlanta this season. After the rain delay, Bryce Harper greeted reliever Ian Krol with an RBI single.

Washington finally got on the board against Atlanta starter Matt Wisler in the sixth as Jayson Werth doubled home Trea Turner in a downpour to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Braves beat the Nationals 6-2 at rain-soaked Turner Field to secure the series victory. They played their last game at Turner Field with the NL-worst Braves moving to a new ballpark next year. Wisler comes off a 7-5 loss to visiting Miami with eight runs given up on ten hits in 4.1 frames. First baseman Freddie Freeman added two hits and extended his National League-leading hitting streak to 22 games. Both are career highs and the longest active streaks in the majors.

"I'm coming to expect it, quite honestly", Braves interim manager Brian Snitker said of Inciarte, who leads the majors with 87 hits since the All-Star break to raise his average to.293.

Glover in a funk: Koda Glover appeared to rebound nicely earlier this week with two scoreless innings against the New York Mets, but in Saturday's loss to the Braves took a step back with another rough outing. He's 4-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 16 career starts against Atlanta.
