Retested DNA evidence a year ago linked Heinrich to the 1989 kidnapping and sexual assault of Jared Scheierl in Cold Spring, Minnesota, nine months before Jacob's abduction.

A USA man has admitted to abducting and killing an 11-year-old boy almost 27 years after he committed the crime. On Tuesday, Daniel Heinrich admitted to the abduction and slaying of the boy. He says he took Jacob, handcuffed him and assaulted him in a grove of trees.

Jacob was biking with his brother and a friend when he was abducted by Heinrich, who was armed and wearing a mask, in October 1989.

Heinrich said he feared they would be spotted after hearing police on a scanner in his vehicle and made Wetterling duck, he said. Patty Wetterling is consoled by son Trevor during a news conference after a hear for Danny Heinrich, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 in Minneapolis.

Heinrich was never charged in that case.
