Anderson pushes White Sox over Twins 13-11 in 12 innings

The Twins offense exploded for four home runs off the Sox pitching on Saturday.

Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer Friday against the Chicago White Sox. "I know that it's pretty free and easy right now". Opponents have 51 hits, 15 walks, 19 strikeouts, 15 home runs and a 1.310 OPS against Shields in that span.

Buxton had three hits and is 9 for 16 with three homers and nine RBIs in four games since being recalled from the minors.

The Twins led most of the game and hit four home runs in the game but saw a two-run lead wither away over the final two innings.

"At that point, he was coming out anyway", Ventura said. "It was good to see Byron have another good night". He's got a lot of work to do.

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson (44) looks to first baseman Trevor Plouffe (24) during a sacrifice bunt by Chicago White Sox shortstop Tyler Saladino (not pictured) during the first inning at Target Field. Tommy Kahnle worked scoreless 8th, and he, Ynoa and Minaya preserved the important parts of the bullpen for tomorrow's Ranaudo start, though perhaps a position player pitching would have been an appropriate end to the early pitching performances. "You got a chance there with two outs in the fifth to hold on, and got a changeup he left up to Morales. A rough night for us". The Royals tagged him for five earned runs on nine hits in five innings. Santiago will also be trying to follow up a quality start, his first with the Twins since being acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade on August 1.

"We're continuing to get treatment on that and pin down a little bit more if he's going to be able to go out there and it's not going to bother him".

Chicago White Sox pitcher James Shields reacts after giving up a two-run home run to Minnesota Twins' Miguel Sano in the third inning of a baseball game Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, in Minneapolis. It was the fourth time this season both teams hit a leadoff home run to begin the game. The Twins have 162 homers with 26 games to go, the most they've hit in six years with a pace to post their highest total since their championship season in 1987.

Added Ventura, who briefly playfully avoided Frazier in the dugout after the hit: "You're proud of him". "There's some good signs there".

Jose Abreu hit two three-run homers and drove in a career-best seven runs, and Chicago used Tim Anderson's two-run double in the 12th inning to beat Minnesota 13-11 on Sunday. It was the eighth time in 17 starts with the White Sox that Shields has allowed at least five runs.

But White Sox closer David Robertson couldn't hang onto the lead, walking the leadoff man in the bottom of the ninth before surrendering a run-scoring double to the left-center field gap by pinch hitter Kurt Suzuki.

"He told me he was going to take me out the other day and not let me play for the rest of the season", Frazier said smiling.

NOTES: White Sox RHP Miguel Gonzalez, who pitched in a rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, is expected to rejoin the major league club next week and could pitch against Detroit.

Minnesota got to Chicago starter Jose Quintana, who entered the day leading the American League with a 2.77 ERA. Acquired from the New York Yankees for outfielder Aaron Hicks in a winter trade, Murphy hit.236 with 39 RBIs in 83 games for Rochester. Sano hit his 22nd and Murphy added his first for the Twins after being recalled a day earlier.
