Jamaica's Elaine Thompson became the first woman since the late Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988 to complete the Olympic 100m-200m double when she won the half-lap event in 21.78 on Wednesday night.

The first Rio story I saw Wednesday was about Evan Jager's second-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase finals, and it included video of him closing the gap on eventual victor Conseslus Kipruto of Kenya, who won in an Olympic record 8 minutes, 3.28 seconds.
