Josh Donaldson pads MVP case with a three-homer day

It was a matter of the Twins finding another way to lose in a discouraging season.

Toronto has won consecutive games in which it has allowed seven or more runs.

"To win championships, you have to beat the teams you should beat, today we were able to do that", Dickey said. "I saw him dive, I kind of knew it would be a triple once it got by him, but rounding second I saw Luis (third base coach Rivera) keep waving me and I kept going".

"Max is trying to make a play and get us off the field with a lead and he came up short".

The Twins have lost four straight games in which they score five or more runs.

Dozier's two-run double gave him a career-best 78 RBIs. "It was too much offense and not enough pitching".

The 30-year-old Donaldson followed that by completing the homer trifecta with a solo shot to dead centre in the eighth, his 33rd.

"It's one of those things, as a baseball player, you want to happen one day", said Donaldson of hitting three homers in a single game.

Despite leading by 5-runs at one point, the Blue Jays eventually crawled their way back. Donaldson came out for a curtain call as the crowd of 47,444 roared their approval.

"I made three mistakes", Kepler said. "I tried to enjoy it for a second", Donaldson said. (Encarnacion) was on deck after I hit the third one and he had a huge smile on his face.

In fact, Donaldson on Sunday tallied the first three-homer game of his career.

Light (0-1) took the loss while Scott Feldman (7-4) pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief for the win.

Jason Grilli handled the eighth inning, and as the Blue Jays are growing very accustomed to, the veteran right-hander fanned two batters and worked a clean frame. Bautista led off with a double to left-centre, a ball that either Minnesota outfielder Robbie Grossman (left) or Danny Santana (centre) should have caught.

Molitor said he had no issue with Kepler's aggressive dive.

Eddie Rosario took over in center field for the Twins in the second inning. Molitor said Santana would be placed on the disabled list with a sprained left left shoulder.

The Toronto Blue Jays got off to a tough start this week, dropping three of their first four games, and things were not looking good for the Jays. Devon Travis walked, Josh Thole grounded out to first and Jose Bautista walked to load the bases. He is batting.318 (7-for-22) during the six-game streak.

The Twins have been swept 13 times this season.

Leading off the sixth, Tulowitzki hammered an 89 miles per hour two-seam fastball from Gibson just over the wall in deep centre to pull the Jays to within two. He was checked by the trainer and stayed in.

Dioner Navarro is also expected to join the Blue Jays in time for their series against the Orioles.

YANKEES 13, ORIOLES 5: Rookie Gary Sanchez homered for the third straight game for host NY to reach 11 in 23 career games, making him the fastest to 11 in Major League Baseball history. Santiago missed his last turn with a bruised thumb. He then got Joe Mauer to hit into a 1-6-3 double play and enticed Kepler to ground out to first to end the inning with no runs allowed.
