Joel Embiid may finally play in a 76ers uniform

The 22-year-old big man has been working out and will be ready for preseason after two lost years, according to Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown.

In the 2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, the Sixers selected Embiid with the third overall pick.

Now, far removed from his most-recent foot surgery, skepticism regarding Embiid's ability to play has been replaced with confidence in him contributing this season. If Embiid does suit up for Philadelphia prior to the regular season, it will be his first competitive game since March 1, 2014 while at Kansas University. "None of us should be afraid right now, we're very proud of him". For the record, the Sixers are slated to open their exhibition slate on October 4 against the Boston Celtics. "He just is so on track, he's on track in his head, he's on track physically". I do agree with that, but I will tell you that behind close doors, physically, mentally, recent scans, medically, everything is pointing in the right direction.

If so, that has to be considered great news for both Embiid and the Sixers.

It's been almost 30 months since Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has played in a competitive game. "I think everybody's starting to get excited", Brown said.

Add in Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, and there's no reason to believe Philadelphia can't turn the corner in 2016-17.
