Danish police arrest asylum seeker who threatened to blow himself up

The arrest took place without any dramatics, authorities said on their Twitter page.

Police in Funen said that a 22-year-old Iranian refugee threatened to blow himself up after climbing onto the roof of the refugee centre.

The Local reported Danish police said: 'Police and rescue personnel are on location and the residents of the centre are being evacuated'.

The Danish government has introduced a series of controversial measures to reduce the number of asylum seekers entering the country.

The surrounding road is stretched off for several hundred metres, and the fire brigade are also on the scene. It has since been lifted.

The unidentified man reportedly made threats at the Asylcentre Nyborg on the island of Funen.

Denmark registered 21,000 asylum applications in 2015, making it one of the main European Union destinations for refugees per capita, after Finland, Austria, Germany, and Sweden.
