DA won't rush decision on McCoy charges

Report Le Sean McCoy sucker punched police officer

It has been close to two weeks since former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was involved to come degree in a fight at a Philadelphia nightclub that left two off-duty police officers. While the D.A.'s office attempts to parse out any lingering questions, a press conference and subsequent dissemination of charges isn't imminent. I'm the DA who has prosecuted police, gone after priests who shielded pedophiles, lawmakers who were caught on tape taking money for political favors and the people who attacked a gay couple in Center City. He was "punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times by all four suspects", according to the police report. There were serious injuries, serious bodily injuries that took place here - eye sockets were broke, fractured skull, stitches.

McNesby said the prolonged nature of the investigation shows "absolute disrespect to Philadelphia police officers" and that has "never waited this long, ever, to see somebody arrested" in more than 4,500 felony arrests he's been involved with during his career. "So this just wasn't a pushing and shoving match where you're separated and off you go". The officers got the worst of the altercation - as evidenced by a video obtained by TMZ - and charges seemed to be inevitable, especially after the Mayor of Philadelphia chimed in.

"We'll also have our attorneys file a private criminal complaint, and we'll move in that direction", McNesby said.

How did McCoy find himself in this situation? McCoy and his friends then told the women they were "bored" and were leaving to attend a concert, but that they eventually would end up at Recess Lounge if the women wanted to join them there.

The reason for the push-back is reportedly doubt about the behavior of the officers before, during and after the fight.

We're awaiting a decision by the DA's office.

Williams addressed the interest in the investigation Wednesday. It has been more than a week since Philadelphia police concluded their investigation of the matter and passed it along to the District Attorney's office for review.
